Weald of Kent Walk 2016

Again, the rotary Club of the Weald of Kent were thrilled when we agreed to support them by sponsoring their whole event. This mean that all the money raised went to Cancer Research UK. £17.652 was collected, and I was fortunate enough to be asked to present the cheque.

We have agreed to support it again this year (2017), and then we will be taking a break and looking for a new event to support in 2018. If you are involved in a fund raising event let us know and we will try to help you.

If you would like more details, go to the Rotary Club of the Weald of Kent website and have a look.

Weald of Kent Walk 2015

So successful was the 2014 Walk, that we have agreed to sponsor the walk again.  We very much hope to see you there

Weald of Kent Walk 2014

For those of you who have never taken part in a charity walk, this one is the one to start with. It starts at Harrietsham Village Hall, and you can take part in the 3, 6 or 9 mile walk, and its in aid of Cancer Research. Over the almost 30 years that this event has been running, they have raised almost £250,000 for Cancer Research! That pretty amazing when you consider its all done by vounteers, (and they are all over a certain age!) and anyone they can “encourage” to join them in the organising of these events, held every year.

If you go to Weald of Kent Rotary and you will find out all about it.

It costs them about £3000.00 each time to put the event on, and I have agreed to sponsor the whole event for them, through the Maidstone side of the company. Its a great cause, and you will no doubt understand why its so important to help in every way possible!  Go on, have a nice walk in the countryside, pay £10 to charity and you’ll have a lovely walk. You get a ploughmans too!

Guide Dogs 2013 Go Walkies

We are very pleased to be able to say that we have agreed to support the Guide Dogs again this year, as its such a fabulous thing these dogs do. And the training they are given is just amazing. I had a go at something they call “Sighted Guiding” the other day, when the Maidstone Guide Dog Trainers were at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls to do some training there. It was quite and “eye opener” in fact!

Anyway were are on again this year and the date for the event is 15th September 2013 at Leeds Castle. If you would like to come this year, contact

This bit was all down to Emma, our Lady Funeral Directors at the Walderslade office. I must say we did rib her terribly badly about this sponsored run that she agreed to do.

Our funeral arranger from Walderslade, recently put all the rest of us to shame, when she took part in a Half Marathon run in aid of charity. You can imagine all the leg pulling she had to endure.

Anyway she did it, all credit to her.

The firm said whatever she made from sponsors, we would double. She made £300 which we then doubled.

The charity was kind enough to send us a certificate which we have included here. Again excellent Emma. Mind you she wasn’t very keen on us adding a picture of her at the finish. At the start would have been ok with all her hair in place. At the end she was, er, a little less tidy. Lets just leave it at that!

Guide Dogs 2012

On 7th October 2012, we sponsored the Guide Dogs local event “Go Walkies” in Mote Park. Very fortunately, the weather was kind, and lots of very lovely people came out to support Guide Dogs Maidstone, and have a lot of fun at the same time. Rather embarrassingly for me, I was pressed by Kate Hunter (thanks Kate) into judging the Fun Dog Show. I will shortly be adding some pictures. This has to be one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. I was lucky to have a lovely lady Vet with me. We had a lot of fun. They raised £3000 that day for Guide Dogs. Well done Maidstone Guide Dogs, and the event organisers in particular.

Guide Dos event 2012

This was the very long 1 mile sponsored walk! And yes they did do it too.

This is just to prove that we did do it. Mary with Lily (the Westie) and my daughter and I just managed the walk. Mary walks the dog a lot, but its always dark or raining when its my turn.

A very funny thing happened. The Guide Dogs event staff asked me and their Veterinarian (who was a lovely lady and I will add her name as soon as I can find it) to do a fun Prize giving for classes like “The owner who looks most like their dog”. The dog with the most “I didn’t do it” look. Best “Senior Citizen” and several other “classes”. If you were one of the spectators I hope you will agree that it was mostly an impossible task. Everyone who took part was a great sport. Well done to everyone. Fun, absolutely!
